As part of our ongoing Board Member Spotlight series, we are thrilled to introduce Jane Campbell, who has had an impact on National City Christian Church and Foundation since she became a congregation member in 2009 and a Foundation board member in 2017.
The Honorable Jane L. Campbell is the fourth President/CEO of the United States Capitol Historical Society. Before joining the Society in February 2019, Ms. Campbell served as Chief of Staff to U.S. Senator Mary Landrieu of Louisiana and as Staff Director for the U.S. Senate Committee on Small Business and Entrepreneurship. Ms. Campbell held elected office as an Ohio state legislator, a Cuyahoga County Commissioner, and as Mayor of Cleveland (the first, and to date only woman to serve in this position). Ms. Campbell has also run a small business, led the Washington office of a national community development organization, and led a significant women’s political advocacy group. Ms. Campbell earned a Master of Science in Urban Studies from Cleveland State University, a Bachelor of Arts in History from the University of Michigan, and held a Fellowship in the Harvard Kennedy School of Government’s Institute of Politics. She is the proud mother of a medical doctor and a minister and a grandmother of three. She brings this incredible confluence of professional experience and personal commitments to her leadership on the Foundation board.
What are you reading or listening to right now?
Right now I am reading three books–Summer Island by Kristen Hannah and Familiaris by David Wroblewski and Being Mortal by Atul Gawande.
What has brought you hope in the last year?
This year, I have two things bringing me hope. Watching my daughter Rev. Katie Campbell- Morrison lead my mom’s memorial service and growing as an ordained minister has expanded my sense of hope. Additionally, watching my daughter Dr. Jessica Merrill be an extraordinary mom to her three precious children while serving as a medical doctor.
Why is the work of the Foundation important?
Maintaining the voice of the Christian Church (Disciples of Christ) requires that the building be a place of worship and witness. It is the Foundation that secures our building and sets the stage for outreach to the community both local, national, and international.
The Foundation continues its gratitude for Jane Campbell and the strength of leadership she brings to the wider board through her executive leadership experience and mind towards our history and our future.
