We’ll be thinking both “inside and outside the Bachs” at this week’s Music at Midday concert. Organist Sondra Goldsmith Proctor will present a program entitled “J.S. Bach and His Sons,” featuring some familiar names from the family and some music that might cause the great master to wince, just a little. ABOUT THE ARTIST
Sondra Goldsmith Proctor has served in a variety of prominent musical roles, most recently as Musician in Residence at Gunnison Memorial Chapel on the campus of St. Lawrence University in Canton, New York, Co-Dean of the St. Lawrence River Chapter of the American Guild of Organists, and Programme Convenor for the Royal Canadian College of Organists – Ottawa Centre.
For almost forty-five years she served churches and schools in the D.C. Metro Area, and she also conducted Little Singers of Montgomery County who sang in 26 languages. She was the Associate Conductor/Keyboard Artist for The Paul Hill Chorale and Washington Singers based at the John F. Kennedy Center for the Performing Arts. As Founder and Conductor of Circle Singers, a vocal chamber ensemble, she regularly featured new repertoire to challenge her singers and excite her audiences. Her last positions in the DC area were at The American University, Washington Hebrew Congregation and Westmoreland Congregational United Church of Christ.
Her ministry included programs for the very young to the last years of life. A student of Albert Russell in D.C., Claire Coci at Union Seminary and Marie-Claire Alain in France, Ms. Proctor believes that music is the international language for diplomacy. Her recital career throughout Europe, the Caribbean and North America has permitted her to reach many people through the power of music.
