Please join us at National City Christian Church this Friday, May 21, at 12:15 p.m., for our free weekly Music at Midday concert. We are delighted to be welcoming composer and organist Justus (Jay) Parrotta to perform a program of his own works. Many of the pieces are based on hymn tunes:
- Salve Festa Dies (Premiere)
- Land of Rest
- Three Frescoes for Organ (I. Deck thyself, my soul with gladness; As the deer yearns for streams of water; At his feet the six-winged seraph)
- Seaside Suite for Organ (I. Prelude; II. Pastorale; III. Aquarelle; IV. Grand Jeu)
Justus (Jay) Parrotta possesses a varied and extensive musical background and has received numerous awards and commissions during his musical career. He holds a Bachelor’s of Music Magna Cum Laude in Organ Performance with a Minor in Composition, a Masters in Composition with a concentration in Concert Music, and a Doctorate of Musical Arts in Music Composition from The Catholic University of America’s Benjamin T. Rome School of Music. His organ concert performances have included venues such as the Basilica of the National Shrine of the Immaculate Conception, Franciscan Monastery of the Holy Land in America, St. Luke’s Catholic Church in McLean, Virginia, and Washington National Cathedral. His compositional works consist of music for solo instruments, voice, choir, congregation, chamber ensemble, orchestra, dance, opera, electronics, and film.
As we reopen the building for Music at Midday, we will be following health safety protocols. All audience members must wear masks and remain at least six feet apart. We will also be recording the concert and will post it later in the day on the church’s YouTube channel and Facebook page. Look for an email message after the live performance with links or just watch our Facebook page for a post.
