Please join us at National City Christian Church this Friday, April 5, at 12:15 p.m., for our free weekly Music at Midday recital. We are delighted to be welcoming organist Joby Bell and pianist Ling Yu Hsiao, who will perform an exciting program of duets:

  • Duet Suite (five movements) – Denis Bédard
  • Dialog – Leo Sowerby
  • A Symphony of Spirituals (three movements) – Joel Raney

Pianist Ling Yu Hsiao is the music therapist for St. Croix Hospice in the Des Moines, Iowa, area. She is also a staff accompanist for Drake University and for Dowling Catholic High School in Des Moines, and she is a chorister in and occasional accompanist for the Des Moines Choral Society. She holds degrees in general music from CUNY Queens, collaborative piano from the Eastman School of Music, and music therapy from Appalachian State University.

Since 2004, organist Joby Bell has served on the music faculty at Appalachian State University, where he teaches organ and church music studies. His teaching specializes in practice techniques, memorization, service playing, choral accompanying, and maintaining grace under pressure – lessons always best taught by example. He earned performance degrees from Appalachian State and from Rice University. His organ teachers include H. Max Smith and Clyde Holloway.

If you are unable to join us in person, you may view a livestream on our YouTube channel (Friends of National City Christian Church) or on our Facebook page (National City Christian Church). You may also view a recording afterwards at those same sites.
