Director of Worship, Music & Arts
National City Christian Church Washington, D.C.

National City Christian Church is the national church of The Christian Church (Disciples of Christ). Designed by famed architect John Russell Pope and built on Thomas Circle in downtown Washington, D.C. in 1930, the church is now a beacon of welcome and inclusion, leading the way for the denomination and for other churches around the country. We say this about ourselves:

At National City, we seek to help everyone journey toward a fuller commitment to Christ by being an inclusive church family which fully embraces in its life and ministries people of every race, gender, age, culture, economic circumstance, sexual/gender orientation, family configuration, physical or mental condition, and all other distinctions which are the rich tapestry of God’s creation.

Part of our mission is the crafting of meaningful worship and other experiences that nurture the congregation and extend a wide welcome to our community. Our values include excellence, collaboration, and a commitment to faith formation. National City has a rich history of excellent music across all genres. The church facility includes our Moeller pipe organ, which is one of the finest in the city. We seek to use our many resources including virtual/hybrid technology to welcome Christ into the everyday chaos of modern life and send each other into the world to face the challenges of being human.

We seek a Director of Worship, Music & Arts who can apply an artistic hand while developing bold initiatives to help us experience the mystery of the Divine as we seek to be changed for the better. This person will bring this vision to life by: coordinating worship, leading the music program, and facilitating other public arts events, all in collaboration with the ministerial team and lay leaders of the church. The music and arts program should welcome the neighborhood into our faith community. Having read these objectives, we welcome letters of interest expressing how you can be an integral part of the realization of this vision. Please include information about your background, your philosophy of music and worship, your view of teamwork in the ministry setting, how you envision music and arts as a part of engaging the neighborhood and beyond, and your vision of what you can bring to our community.

We anticipate that this position will be about 30 hours per week. Please send your letter of interest to hr@nationalcitycc.org.
