National City often answers the call of our ecumenical and interfaith partners to support their work as a host venue. This month, we worked with Jewish Voice for Peace to provide an outdoor space for their organization to erect a sukkah to celebrate the Jewish harvest holiday of Sukkot while their Jewish members from across the country convened in DC.
A sukkah is a temporary outdoor hut or booth that is constructed to evoke the Israelites’ time in the wilderness. The sukkah belonging to Jewish Voice for Peace was placed on the lawn September 23-30. During that time, Jewish Voice for Peace, an American anti-Zionist Jewish organization, hosted lobby days advocating for peace and Palestinian solidarity in both national and international policies. The group describes their work on their website, saying, “Our struggle against Zionism is not only an act of solidarity with Palestinians, but also a concrete commitment to creating the Jewish futures we all deserve. We are fighting for a thriving Judaism and Jewish communities, for a multiplicity of Jewish cultures and for the future of the Jewish people.”
National City is grateful that God continues to bring us new ecumenical and interfaith ministry partners to build the diverse Kindom of God we wish to be and become.
