One of the great joys of being both a congregation and the national church of the Christian Church (Disciples of Christ) are the many ways National City shows up for one another and builds community across the life of the church. One of the best opportunities to connect with other Disciples congregations in the DMV is during our biennial Regional Assembly.
Earlier this month, the Christian Church Capital Area gathered for Regional Assembly from October 15-17 at Michigan Park Christian Church in Washington, DC. The theme of the weekend was “Song in a Weary Throat: Redemption Song” inspired by the elders who sing a new song in Revelation 5:1-9.
The weekend featured sessions led by regional leaders and General Ministries of the Christian Church (Disciples of Christ), including the Pension Fund, Week of Compassion, Disciples Church Extension Fund, and Center for Faith and Giving. General Minister and President, Rev. Terri Hord Owens, provided Friday’s keynote address reflecting on the importance of faith in our divided world, and she offered a book signing of her 2025 book, Staying at the Table: Being the Church We Say We Are. National City’s Senior Minister and President, Rev. Stephanie Kendell, who formerly served on the GMP’s Moderator Team, introduced Rev. Owens.
This two-day event allowed Disciples from congregations across the Capital Area to gather, share ideas and share good news. It was a great time to share more widely the good news of the work the Foundation is doing as the national church to steward our rich history.
