As part of the 2025 Homecoming weekend, the congregation and Foundation partnered to complete improvements to the Sheila Denise Brown-Cooper Courtyard, found at the main entrance of the Beasley Building. These improvements aimed to create a space that increased our hospitality to local residents, tenants, and visiting members of the Christian Church (Disciples of Christ) who often make National City a stop on their trip to Washington DC. In addition to the spirit of hospitality, the improvements were an important step in making the space sustainable to maintain and lower its environmental impacts. These green improvements are a small way we are thinking of engaging our space faithfully.
Following the work day that was part of the Homecoming Weekend Service and Learning spiritual retreat led by Executive Minister, The Rev. Tori Wick, staff and volunteers cleaned up and tended to the existing landscape as well as added new life such as the Japanese Maple which was donated by a family within the congregation. These new plants have added color and vibrancy to our space and have ignited a renewed sense of shared ministry.
We hope that whether you live in the DC metro area or are visiting Washington DC, you will take a moment to stop by and see the improvements, take a tour of our space and spend time in prayer in our sanctuary.
