Please join us this Friday, April 13, at 12:15 p.m., when German organist Axel Flierl will perform “Improvisations and Transcriptions” at our free weekly Music at Midday concert. Dr. Flierl is the titular organist and conductor at St. Peter’s Basilica in “Dillingen an der Donau” (Bavaria/Germany), and artistic director of the international annual organ festival “Dillinger Basilikakonzerte.” His solo recital career has taken him to six continents and produced a number of professional recordings.

As the title suggests, this week’s program includes transcriptions and improvisations from great composers:

  • Choral-Improvisation sur le “Victimae paschali laudes” – Charles Tournemire, reconstructed by Maurice Duruflé
  • Pilgrim’s Chorus from the opera Tannhäuser – Richard Wagner, transcribed for organ by Franz Liszt
  • Berceuse à la mémoire de Louis Vierne – Pierre Cochereau, reconstructed by Fréderic Blanc
  • Sortie improvisée sur “Haec dies” – Pierre Cochereau, reconstructed by François Lombard
