As the national church of the Christian Church (Disciples of Christ), National City was intentionally placed by the denomination in our nation’s capital to speak the truth of the Gospel to national and global leaders alike. For nearly 100 years National City has leaned into that call and created a notable history of leading and collaborating with organizations that work to hold our leaders accountable to the care for all of God’s creation. It is important work all the time, but perhaps even more so during the most sacred seasons of our faith.

Which is why this year it was important, as part of our Holy Week gatherings, to host a rally and participate in a march to the White House in collaboration with Repairs of the Breach. Repairers of the Breach, a national organization that trains moral leaders and builds social justice movements that are rooted in a framework that uplifts our deepest moral and constitutional values, works closely with the Christian Church (Disciples of Christ). National City has been a longstanding partner with Repairers of the Breach, so we were pleased to welcome them on the Monday of Holy Week as a starting place to rally before marching to demand legislative leaders be held accountable to their work with a primary focus of bringing an end to the war in Iran.

As Christians journeyed with Jesus toward the cross, the ecumenical and inter-faith gathering of nearly 100 people simultaneously journeyed together toward justice, starting on the steps of National City. Together we spoke out against the unjust systems, policies, and practices happening in our world today. We heard from youth, elders, veterans, and faith leaders all with their unique yet pressing message of global peace and just community. Pastor Stephanie was interviewed by the local news where she reminded everyone that as followers of Jesus, the Prince of Peace, we must speak against this unjust war. She rallied the crowds with our important National City message of “We Need Each Other.”

National City will continue to partner with Repairers of the Breach on their Moral Monday gatherings and appreciate your prayers and support.
