Please join us at National City Christian Church this Friday, June 26, at 12:15 p.m., for the final free weekly Music at Midday concert of our spring season. We are delighted to be welcoming Austrian organist Stefan Donner to perform music by some of Europe’s greatest composers:
- Sinfonia from Cantata, BWV 29 (Air deaden dir, Gott, wir danken dir) – J. S. Bach
- Sketches for the Pedal Piano (3. Lebhaft; 4. Allegretto) – Robert Schumann
- Sonata in B-flat Major (Allegro con brio) – Felix Mendelssohn Bartholdy
- Nutcracker Suite (Waltz of the Flowers) – Pyotr Ilyich Tchaikovsky
- Fugue in B minor – Marcel Dupré
Stefan Donner earned degrees from the University of Music Vienna where he studied organ, piano, and conducting. He also received a Master’s degree in organ performance from the Conservatory of Amsterdam. Additionally, Stefan has participated in master classes and notably received a 2014-15 Fulbright Scholarship to study organ and harpsichord at the Eastman School of Music in Rochester, NY. Stefan is the recipient of various awards, including the 2010 Franz Schmidt Organ Competition and has recorded several CDs (recently Bach’s Goldberg Variations on harpsichord). He maintains a busy globe-spanning concert schedule. Currently, Mr Donner works as a piano instructor at Fritz Kreisler Institute of the University of Music in Vienna.
After this week’s concert, Music at Midday will be on a summer break until after Labor Day. We will return on Friday, September 11, the twenty-fifth anniversary of the attacks in New York, Washington, and Pennsylvania. We will be welcoming organist Ralph Holtzhauser to present a recital to honor those who lost their lives that day.
If you are unable to join us in person, you may view a livestream on our YouTube channel (Friends of National City Christian Church) or on our Facebook page (National City Christian Church). You may also view a recording afterwards at those same sites.
